Did you eat your lunch? There are two verbs in this question, did is the helping verb and eat is the main verb
What is the date today? There is only one verb in this question, is and of course it is a main verb
Have you noticed that the main verb usually has the meaning or describes the action whereas the helping verb just helps the main verb and is meaningless
